How old was the Tang monk when he died?

He died of illness and lived to the age of 62.

Master Xuanzang (602mur664), a famous eminent monk in the Tang Dynasty, was born in Luozhou (present-day Yanshi in Luoyang, Henan Province). The vulgar name is "Chen Kui", and the dharma name is "Xuanzang". He is known as the "Master of Sanzang" and later generations are commonly known as "Tang monk". Master Xuanzang, the most famous monk in Chinese history, has traveled thousands of miles and finally got the Buddhist sutra back from India to Chang'an and translated it. Lu Xun called it "the man who sacrificed his life to seek the Dharma" and praised it as "the backbone of China".

Xuanzang became a monk at the age of 13. Zhenguan three years (629 years), starting from Chang'an (present-day Xi'an), he arrived at Nalantuo Temple in Tianzhu (present-day India) after 4 years, worshiped the famous monk and preceded the sages as his teacher, and studied the Buddhist scriptures such as the Yoga Master's Land Theory. In the 19th year of Zhenguan (645), Xuanzang returned to Chang'an with Mahayana and Hinayana Buddhist scriptures and brought back 150 Buddhas, 7 Buddha statues and 657 scriptures. Later, with the support of Emperor Taizong and Gaozong, he summoned eminent monks from major temples to form a translation hall, and translated 75 sutras and treatises, 1335 volumes. Literal translation is often used, which is known as "new translation". Jiumaroshi and Zhenli are also known as the "three great translators of Chinese Buddhism". Xuanzang died in Yuhua Temple in Tongchuan and was buried in Bailuyuan in Chang'an.

Tang Xuanzang was born in 602 and died in 664. He lived to be 62 years old. The famous Sanzang Dharma Master of the Tang Dynasty and the greatest translator in the history of Han Buddhism. Chen, whose real name is yi, was born in Yushi County, Luoyang City, Henan Province (in the south of Yanshi City, Henan Province). He is the founder of Buddhism.

In view of the controversy over the death of Tang Xuanzang, I would like to briefly introduce the major events of Tang Xuanzang's activities after learning scriptures as follows:

On the 25th of the first month of the 19th year of Zhenguan, Xuanzang returned to Chang'an. Shi Zhuan said at that time that "Taoism and vulgarity rushed to meet, and the city went on strike". Soon after, Emperor Taizong received and advised him to return to vulgarity as an official, and Xuanzang politely thanked him. After that, the translation of Chang an Hongfu Temple was provided by the imperial court, and more than 20 famous monks from various places were called in to assist in the translation, and formed a complete translation field. In May of the same year, he created and translated 20 volumes of the Tibetan Sutra of the Great Bodhisattva, which was completed in September.

In the first month of the 20th year of Zhenguan, Xuanzang translated 20 volumes of the Theory of Sacred Religion, and dictated that the Chronicles of the Western regions of the Tang Dynasty was written by the debater. In the same year, he translated the Deep Secret Sutra and the positive Theory of Ming Dynasty, which promoted the development of Yinming in China. In addition, he translated Laozi and Mahayana into Sanskrit and spread them to India. In May 22, he translated the 100th volume of the Yoga Master, and asked Taizong to write a preface to the scriptures. In October, the Prajna Paramita Sutra was translated. Soon after the completion of the Great Cien Temple, Xuan Zang moved to the throne and devoted himself to translating Buddhist sutras.

In the third year of Yong Hui (652), he asked to build a pagoda to settle the scriptures. After Gao Zhixu, he built the Wild Goose Pagoda in the west courtyard of Daci'en Temple. Xuan Zang was "personally responsible for carrying bricks and stones, the first and last two weeks (year), the beginning of the end of the work."

Xianqing moved to Ximing Temple in the third year (658). Because he was often disturbed by trifles, he moved to Yuhua Temple and devoted himself to translating sutras. Xianqing five years, began to translate the Great Prajna Sutra. The Vatican's plan of 200000 praises is numerous and voluminous. Every time his disciples were abridged, Xuan Zang was so cautious that he did not delete a word. In the third year of Longshuo (663), he finally finished translating this masterpiece with as many as 600 volumes. Since then, Xuan Zang felt that his body and mind were declining, and in the first year of Linde (664), he translated the five mantras into a volume. Died in February of the same year. It is reported that Xuanzang translated a total of 75 scriptures, totaling 1335 volumes. The classics translated by later generations are called new translations.

After the death of Tang Linde in the first year of Tang Linde (664 AD), Master Xuanzang was first buried on the Bailu Plateau near Chang'an. Five years later, the imperial court reburied it in the graveyard of Changan Xingjiao Temple, dedicated to building pagodas. In the first year of Guangming (880 AD), Huang Chaojun entered Chang'an, the tomb tower of Xingjiao Temple was destroyed, and the remains of the mage were taken by monks to Zige Temple in Zhongnan Mountain for burial, that is, under the Jingde Pagoda in Zigeyu, Houxian County, Xi'an City.
