Acupuncture treatment for common diseases in internal medicine

I. Headache

Etiology】There are external headache and (or) internal headache. External headache is mostly related to the attack of external evil. Internal injury headache is caused by damage to internal organs, qi and blood, or internal evil disturbance, such as overwork, poor sleep, anxious temperament or physical weakness.

Symptoms

  1. External headache is mostly accompanied by fear of cold and fever, runny nose, cough and other symptoms.

(1) Wind-cold headache: headache is violent, even to the neck and back, sore bones, no thirst, thin white fur, floating pulse.

(2) Wind-heat headache: headache with swelling, evil wind, red eyes and face, thirst and drink, constipation and drowning, thin yellow moss, floating pulse.

(3) Wind-damp headache: headache like a wrap, heavy limbs, chest tightness and abdominal distension, dry mouth and little drinking, moist and floating pulse.

  1. Headache due to internal injury Most of the headaches are due to deficiency. Most of them are accompanied by indigestion, dizziness, insomnia, chest tightness, nausea, vomiting and other symptoms.

(1) Liver Yang headache: frontal angle and head traction pain, dizziness, irritability, restlessness, sleepiness, and stringiness of the pulse.

(2) Qi deficiency headache: with fatigue, tasteless diet, weak or large and feeble pulse.

(3) Blood deficiency headache: throbbing or vague pain from the tip of the eyebrow to the corner of the forehead, dizziness and blurred vision, gregarious white face, palpitation, and hollow pulse.

(4) Kidney deficiency headache: temporal zhuan pain, dizziness and tinnitus, weakness of the waist and knees, red tongue and thin pulse.

(5) Phlegm-damp headache: pain as heavy as something wrapped, with fullness in the chest and epigastrium, vomiting and vomiting with cancer, white and greasy coating, smooth or moist pulse.

(6) Blood stasis headache: pain like cone stabbing, sometimes occurring and sometimes stopping, face obscure, tongue with petechiae or ecchymosis, pulse astringent or sunken.


Treatment

(I) Treatment by prescription (for reference only)

1. External headache
(1) Wind-cold headache

Rhizoma Ligusticum and Zhi Tang (dispersing wind and dispersing cold): Chuanxiong 9g, Angelica dahurica 9g, Fangfeng 9g, Hossein 3g, Qiangwu 9g, Licorice 6g, decoction with water.

Explanation: Bai Zhi and Fang Feng are good at dispersing the evil of wind-dampness in Yangming meridian; Chuan Xiong invigorates blood stasis and can search for wind and relieve pain; Xiao Xin disperses wind and cold, reaches the surface and the inner; Qiang Wu disperses cold and dispels wind, overcomes dampness and relieves pain; Licorice harmonizes all medicines.

(2) Wind-heat headache

Mulberry and Chrysanthemum Drink plus reduction (for clearing wind and heat): 9 grams of autumn mulberry leaves, 9 grams of Hanging chrysanthemum, 6 grams of peppermint, 9 grams of Scutellaria baicalensis, 9 grams of forsythia, 9 grams of Tribulus terrestris and 6 grams of licorice.

Note: If heat is heavy, add Dandelion 15 grams and gypsum 30 grams.

Explanation: Autumn mulberry leaf and chrysanthemum evacuate wind and dissipate heat; mint cools, scutellaria clears lung fire and real heat in the upper jiao; forsythia clears heat and detoxifies; tribulus terrestris disperses wind evil in the liver; licorice harmonizes the middle.

(3) Wind-damp headache

Qiangwu and Fangfeng Tang (dispelling wind and winning dampness): Qiangwu 9 grams, Fangfeng 9 grams, Cangjiao 9 grams, Gao Ben 9 grams, Chuanxiong 9 grams, Manchuria 12 grams, Xiang Bai Zhi 9 grams, decoction with water.

Explanation: Qiang Zhi, Fang Feng, Cang Zhu and Gao Ben dispel wind and overcome dampness; Chuan Xiong, Man Zi and Bai Zhi dispel cold, dispel wind and relieve pain. The combination of the first few herbs can dispel wind and invigorate blood to relieve pain.

2. Headache from internal injuries

(1) Liver-Yang headache

Tianma hooked vine soup (pacifying liver and submerging Yang): hooked vine 9 grams, stone cassia 15 grams, gardenia 6 grams, scutellaria 9 grams, Chuan Niu Kne 9 grams, mulberry 15 grams, helianthus bark 15 grams, licorice 9 grams, taken with water.

(2) Headache due to Qi deficiency

Adding and subtracting the formula of Tonic Zhong Yi Qi Tang (benefitting Qi and raising Yang): Astragalus membranaceus 15g, Radix Codonopsis pilosulae 9g, Radix Angelicae Sinensis 9g, Radix et Rhizoma ligustici 6g, Shengma 6g, Radix chaihu 9g, Rhizoma Chuanxiong 9g, decoction with water.

Explanation: Astragalus, Radix Codonopsis, Radix Angelicae Sinensis and Shengma benefit Qi and raise Yang; Chai Hu and Chuanxiong relieve heat and pain with Chen Pi moving Qi and relieving pain, strengthening the spleen and stomach.

(3) Blood deficiency headache

Radix Angelicae Sinensis 9g, Radix Paeoniae Alba 9g, Radix Rehmanniae Praeparata 9g, Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong 9g, Radix Chrysanthemum 12g, Rhizoma Cranberry 9g, decoction.

Radix Angelicae Sinensis, Radix Paeoniae Alba and Radix Rehmanniae Nourish Blood and Benefit Yin; Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong, together with Chrysanthemum and Radix Angelicae Sinensis, dispel wind-heat and clear the head and eyes.

(4) Headache due to kidney deficiency

Qiju Dihuang Tang (nourishing Yin and tonifying the kidneys): Radix Rehmanniae 9g, Semen 9g, Peony Skin 6g, Zedoary 9g, Poria 9g, Fructus Lycii 12g, Chrysanthemum 9g, Licorice 9g, taken with water.

Explanation: Radix Rehmanniae, Rhizoma Polygonati, Fructus Lycii nourish Yin and tonify the kidney; Mudanpi and Poria cool the blood and drain the heat of the kidney and bladder, together receiving the function of tonifying and draining.

(5) Phlegm-damp headache

Er Chen Tang with flavor (strengthen the spleen to dispel dampness and resolve phlegm): Chen Pi 9 grams, Qing Han Xia 9 grams of Atractylodes Macrocephala 9 grams, 9 grams of Angelica dahurica, Poria 9 grams, licorice 6 grams, decoction.

Explanation of formula: Six bits of combination to strengthen the spleen, remove dampness and resolve phlegm, dispel phlegm-damp headache.

(6) Blood stasis headache

Tao Hong Si Wu Tang (Invigorating Blood Stasis): 9 grams of peach kernel, 9 grams of safflower, 9 grams of Chuanxiong, 9 grams of angelica, 9 grams of red peony, 9 grams of salvia, 9 grams of dahurica, 6 grams of licorice, taken with water.

Explanation: Safflower, peach kernel, Chuanxiong and red peony invigorate blood circulation and eliminate blood stasis; Salvia miltiorrhiza is an important medicine to invigorate blood circulation and resolve blood stasis; Angelica dahurica is an important medicine to relieve pain; Glycyrrhiza glabra slows down pain.

(II) Acupuncture treatment

1. Treatment according to the cause of headache

(1) Main acupoints: Fengchi, Baihui, Yin Tang, Hegu.

Supporting acupoints: for external headache, add Head Vitality and Quchi;

For internal headache, add Foot San Li and Sun;

For dizziness and insomnia, add Shen Men, Sanyinjiao, Neiguan; for dyspepsia, add Foot San Li, Zhong Gua, Guan Yuan; for nausea and vomiting, add Foot San Li, Neiguan;

For chest and abdominal distention, add Zhonggui, Shu Sanli, Tai Chong;

For hyperthermia, add Quchi, Fengchi, Dazhi, Yin Tang; for pain in the bones of the eyebrows, add Zanzhu, Fish Waist, Fengchi, Sun.

(2) Main points: Yin Tang and Feng Chi.

Supporting points: Hegu and Foot San Li.

(3) Main points: Fengchi and Hegu.

Supporting points: Sun, Baihui, Liyu.

2. Treatment of anterior headache according to headache area:

(1) Main points: Yin Tang, He Gu, Head Wei.

Supporting points: Sun.

(2) Main points: Yin Tang, He Gu.

Supporting points: Shang Xing and Li Gu.

(3) Main points: Yin Tang, Sun, Lie Gu.

Supporting points: Miming, Silhouette. Pain in the crown of the head:

(1) Main points: Baihui, Tai Chong.

Supporting points: Yongquan, Sanyinjiao.

(2) Main points: Baihui and Yongquan.

Supporting points: Si Shen Cong. Posterior headache:

(1) Main points: Fengchi and Houxi.

Supporting points: Kidney Yu, Waist Yu, Zhi Mou, and Second Gland.

(2) Main points: Dazhi, Houxi, Fengchi. Migraine:

(1) Main points: Sun, Head Vitality, Waiguan.

Supporting acupuncture points: Rui Gu, Li Gu.

(2) Main acupoints: Sun, Waiguan.

Supporting points: Fengchi, Hegu, Hangzhong.

【Tips

1、No matter what kind of headache, you can acupuncture the Tai Chong point (Cranial Tai Chong Seek).

2, Acute headache can be bled by using a blood collection pen to puncture at the Zhiyin point. ( Post elbow song: head and face ailments needle to Yin)

Acute simple headache moxibustion 1-2 times the pain is stopped for many people.
